“Mode confusion” is a phrase originally from aviation/avionics; describing a situation where an airplanes automated piloting systems challenge, or completely override, the prerogatives and authority of the human pilots, leading to a range of consequences. Some only distressing, others cataclysmic.
ModeConfusion is a new term, arrived at by a concatenation of the previous two, and thus defined as any contest between human being and the various systems and algorithms we have created with the express intention of managing complexity and improving our existence.
I contend that phenomenalogically, and otherwise ‘ModeConfusion’ is now the ‘Spirit of our Age”
